Thorold Legion Branch 17

The branch flag is flying at half mast in honour of Veteran and ordinary member Norman Fowler.

Norm was a great supporter of the Legion, especially our Branch, and a great member and friend to all. He will be truly missed.

FOWLER, Norman
Peacefully passed on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the St. Catharines Hospital. Born February 11, 1932. Predeceased by his wife ‘Rose’ Ellarose 2019 (nee Boyuk, Vogelgesang). Loving father of daughter Dianna (Bob) Dillon and son Gary (Judy) Boyuk. Loving grandfather of Amanda, Jeff (Amber), Robyn, Lindsay (Shawn) and Brandon (Paige). Great grandfather of Camryn & Paityn Dillon & Kavanagh Watton & Hazel Dillon, Keenan Nolan, Boden & Emerson Boyuk. Also survived by his family in England, niece Rose Durette & her sons (wives) & great nephew Grant. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated by Norm’s family that you make a donation to the Thorold Legion Branch 17, Thorold or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the doctors & nurses that took care of Norm in his visits to the hospital. Also a big thank you to the nurses, ladies & caregivers at Cobblestone Gardens. Norm was very happy there. Funeral Service will be held at the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Friday, March 8 at 11:00am followed by interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Thorold Legion, 3 Ormond Street South. We would like to thank Dan Haine for his guidance.

Branch 17 will be hosting our parade and ceremony on Remembrance Day, Saturday, November 11th , forming up in the parking lot behind the Branch at 10:20 am. The parade will march off at 10:30 and proceed West on Albert St, South on Front St, East on Sullivan Ave/Clairmont St, North on Chapel St, and West on Albert St to the cenotaph in Memorial Park for 11:00 am.

For those unable to attend our activities, we ask you to stop wherever you are and observe a moment of silence on November 11th at 11:00 am to honour the fallen and thank all of the
brave men and women who served.

Started last year, the community Sunday REMEMBRANCE PARADE normally held on the Sunday before Remembrance Day will not be held going forward. With the increased attendance on the 11th each year we have made the decision to hold one ceremony each year on the 11th.
