Thorold Legion Branch 17

This years Remembrance activities will be a challenge for Legions across the country and Thorold will be no exception. You can read the notice mailed out to members HERE

We are excited to announce this year we will be able to accept Poppy donations online via the GoFundMe Charity website.

We are also looking for volunteers to help “POPPY” and you DO NOT NEED a uniform. A schedule is posted at the branch for the time and places available. Please contact the branch to sign up to help participate in this very worthy and needed cause.

The Branch ceremony will be held on Remembrance Day, November 11th, forming up at the cenotaph at Memorial Park for the service at 11:00 am. The ceremony will be limited to participants only, in order for us to follow the outdoor gathering protocols that are in place at the time.

From the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who sacrificed for our freedom. We invite everyone across the country to show their recognition by proudly wearing this symbol of Remembrance and taking a moment to reflect.

The Branch flag is flying at half mast in honour of Ordinary Member, Ted “Tab” Bocskei.

BOCSKEI, Ted Alex (TAB)
April 14th 1933 – July 26th 2020
Beloved husband and best friend of HOPE (June 6th 2005). Predeceased by his loving parents, Stephen Sr. and Anna. Brothers Stephen Jr., Joseph and sister Margaret. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Ted was self employed for over 50 years in Project and Construction Management and Engineering fields. Ted was an avid angler and deep sea Marlin fisherman. He was a regular member of the R.C.L. BR.#17 since 1984 and a life member of the Thorold Legion Conservation Group for over 65 years. The family will receive friends at the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, July 30th at 11:00 am. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold.
